Marianne came to Canada at the age of 6 from Europe and spent her childhood in Western Canada. Eventually she landed in Calgary where she attained a Bachelor of Arts (English) from the University of Calgary. The intention at the time was to continue on to a Masters of Library Science - having a great love of reading. However sometimes life leads you in other directions and rather than ending up as a librarian, she has ended up working in accounting related disciplines.
Marianne was inspired to create from an early age. She was fortunate enough to have the guidance of a patient and talented art teacher at the age of 10 who provided a great deal of knowledge and inspiration. Seeing the delight art brought to people and being able to combine that with the personal benefits of drawing and painting set off a life long passion for art. At one point she combined working at her local library during high school, helping people find and sign out books, with painting a mural in the kids section during the quiet times. Seeing the smiles on the children's faces, and hearing their laughter as they followed popular storybook characters down the long wall, was enough to confirm the power of art, and continue to inspire her to create.
The dichotomy between her career, which is all about spreadsheets and numbers, and the artistic side, has led to some interesting conversations.
Marianne creates in several mediums from pencil to ink to acrylic paints.
